Are the tutorials appropriate for beginners?
Yes! Many members start with no prior colored pencil experience. You’ll find real-time tutorials, beginner projects, and tip videos designed to help you build skills step by step.
What if I want advanced lessons?
There’s plenty for you, too. The Signature Membership includes more complex still-life and botanical tutorials that let you refine your technique or develop your own style.
What supplies will I need?
Pencils: I use Prismacolor, Polychromos, Luminance, Derwent Lightfast, Lyra Rembrandt, and Holbein (with a Brand Translator Guide so you can substitute).
Paper: Rising Museum Mount (my favorite), Arches Hot Press, Stonehenge, Strathmore Bristol Smooth, or similar high-quality papers.
Solvent: I use Gamsol to dissolve pigment, but also cover burnishing, blender pens, and solvent-free options.
Other supplies: Sharpeners, erasers, etc.
I recommend starting with whatever supplies you already have and then purchasing what you need as you go along.
What if I don’t speak English?
All tutorials have closed captioning, which can be auto-translated into any language supported on the YouTube platform.
